Why Is My Direct Card Being Declined

Suspicious activity is a top reason for a Direct Express card to be declined

Your card type may not be accepted or may have been flagged for fraudulent or suspicious activity because of multiple attempts at an automated teller machine (ATM) or multiple attempts to make a purchase. Or possibly a large purchase.

Sometimes the information you provided your bank, for example, a zip code, may not be the same and cause an alert to decline the use of your Direct Express Card.

Direct Express does not impose a daily limit for ATM withdrawals. However, many ATM owners do set limits and you may withdraw up to the maximum amount allowed by the ATM owner. ATM owner’s daily ATM withdrawal limits typically range from $200 to $1,000.

Vacation

Your banking fraud detection alert can see your normal transactions and locations. If you are out of town or make an unusual purchase or you are on vacation, it detects suspicious activity and can decline your card for your protection.

If you are planning a vacation, try to alert your bank before leaving to help in your transactions or prevent problems or this type of hassle.

Check Your Card Balance

Make sure you have sufficient funds in your account since this is one of the most common reasons why Direct Express cards get declined. Since Direct Express MasterCard is a debit card, it’s not possible to overdraft the account.

You can use your Direct Express card only as long as you have funds to cover your payment. If you have enough funds, debit cards can still be declined even with enough money.

Make Sure MasterCard is Accepted

A good practice to observe is if a merchant accepts your debit card. Normally a sign is posted, however, a merchant may only be able to run a card as a credit card.

Updated Personal Info

  • Verify you have money
  • Use the right personal identification number (PIN)
  • Make sure that the card has been activated.

If you have a new address, new zip code, phone number, etc., be sure to keep your bank records up to date and informed. Then when you wish to use your Direct Express Card all your information will match.

If your bank detects any mismatched information on file, your card could be declined or prevented from making a purchase to help stop any unauthorized use to protect your account from fraud or scammers.

Server Website Down

The Direct Express server could possibly be down. You can download the mobile app available for Android, iPad, or iPhone, or use your personal computer to check whether the Usdirectexpress.com server is down right now or having outage problems for everyone or just for you.

Expired Card

The other possible reason why your Direct Express Card is not working is when the card is expired. A good thing to do is order a new card before it expires, of course. Call customer service to get a replacement card mailed to you, and when you receive the new Card, call to activate the new Card.

Suspicious Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Transactions

Multiple failed attempts to use the card to withdraw money at an ATM.

For example, if you have entered your ATM pin wrong in multiple attempts, then the card gets automatically blocked.

That’s because Direct Express may think there is an attempt at committing fraud with your card.

As a result, your card may be blocked temporarily or in some cases permanently.

You will have to call customer service to have them unblock your card.

Don’t give out your card number, Personal Identification Number (PIN), or security code to anyone.
