When To Get A Replacement Card 

If your Direct Express card is about to expire, you will automatically be issued a new card. If your Direct Express Card has expired or misplaced and you can’t find it, or your card has been stolen, then immediately call the Direct Express Customer Service Department phone number.  You can also find this number on the back of your card.

If you need a Direct Express replacement card, then your best solution is to call customer service. The customer service representative will need to adequately verify your identity to ensure that you are not a scammer or trying to get access to your Direct Express account illegally.

Direct Express Cardless Benefit Access

While waiting for your new Direct Express replacement card to arrive, if you need to withdraw cash without your card but still have funds remaining on your current account, you will still be able to make payments.

This benefit is called the Direct Express Cardless Benefit Access, and you can ask your customer service representative more about it when you are ordering your replacement card. 

The cardless benefit access is an optional service and includes a fee. The fee for Direct Express cardless benefit access ranges from $8.50 to $12, depending on the transaction amount requested.

Get A Replacement Card By Phone

You may call the Customer Service Department at:

  • Customer Service: 1-888-741-1115 or 1-866-606-3311
  • Hearing-impaired: 1-866-569-0447
  • International: 1-765-778-6290 (Collect)

The customer service department of Direct Express is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When you reach Customer service, they will verify your identity. It is important to make sure to update any auto pay setups as new information.

After a Direct Express customer service representative verifies everything, they will first cancel the current card and then mail your new card to you. Any funds from your old card will be put on your new replacement card.

Your replacement card will arrive by standard mail within 7 to 10 days.

Replacement Card Fees

The new card replacement is free the first time and once per year. A fee of $4.00 will be applied if replaced more frequently.

When your new Direct Express card has arrived in the mail then, call the Customer Service Department for Direct Express to activate your new card. Look on the back of your Direct Express card and you can find the phone number.

If you would like to receive your new card as soon as possible, then by request, you can elect to have your Direct Express Card shipped via UPS or FedEx.

The fee for expedited delivery of the replacement card is $13.50.  (a tracking number or code would then also be emailed to you).

Online Replacement

Direct Express customer service does not offer online services for the replacement of a lost or stolen card.  So, if your card is missing, you will need to call Direct Express on their customer service line to file a report.

Email and Live Chat and Fax

Direct Express does not provide a way to get a replacement card by email as there is no email address for customers. Also, there is no Live Chat available or Fax number to get a replacement card. The Direct Express  customer service department is only available by phone and can be

reached every day, 24 hours a day.
