The difference between the Direct Express card and a credit card is that Direct Express is a debit card that allows, without having a bank account, access to your benefits because we deposit the federal benefits directly into your account monthly and are always available to you.

After you sign up for your Card, Direct Express will notify Social Security for you and send your payment to you every month, so you don’t have to do any extra work contacting Social Security.

Why Would I Receive A Direct Express Card?

How Safe Is The Direct Express Card?

The good news is the Direct Express® card is very Safe & Secure.

Here’s how I mean:

  • The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insures your money up to the maximum that the law allows.
  • You get a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that you use at ATMs, online, and in stores.
  •  Your four-digit PIN is, of course, chosen by you upon the time you activate the Card.
  • To replace your Card, call customer service to report lost or stolen.

If you don’t like your Card, you can close your account at no charge by simply calling 1 (888) 741-1115, and customer service will assist you.

And it is recommended to enroll in the direct deposit program for future payments if you decide to close your account by simply calling 

1 (800) 772-1213 and the Treasurys GoDirect Hotline will assist you or by internet at www.godirect.org

An alternative way to sign up for a direct deposit is by calling 1 (800) 772-1213 to the Social Security Administration or by internet at www.socialsecurity.gov

Lastly, you can also sign up at your bank or credit union.

A.) Is it allowed by Direct Express to receive my Economic Impact Payment? 

No, only current Direct Express® cardholders are eligible to receive this round of Economic Impact Payment on their Card.

B.) Will I get a third stimulus check if I didn’t file 2020 taxes?

Since the IRS will determine your eligibility who have filed a 202 tax return, so, the third Economic Impact Payment will automatically be made to most eligible people without additional action. 

C.) Do people with SSI get a stimulus check?

Yes, people who receive SSI and SSDI will again be automatically qualified to receive their payments. Plus they will automatically be qualified to receive a third stimulus check up to $1,400. This is approved by the American Rescue Plan, which is part of the new administration’s approval.

How Do I Get Cash From My Direct Express Card?

The same way as any debit card at an ATM:

  1. Insert the debit card
  2. enter you PIN
  3. enter Checking or Savings
  4. Enter Cash Withdrawal
  5. Enter the amount of cash
  6. Press Enter 
  7. Get your Card and receipt.

Can I Put A Lock On My Direct Express Card?

If you have misplaced your Stimulus Debit Card, you can lock it by logging online at EIPCard.com to prevent unauthorized transactions or ATM withdrawals while you look for it. However, if your Card is permanently lost, here’s what you need to do: First, call Customer Service at 1-800-606-3311 or 1-888-741-1115

Understand that your Direct Express card may be locked because Direct Express may have noticed or suspected fraudulent activity on your Card due to multiple activities on your card to make a purchase.

Unfortunately, you cannot unlock your Direct Express card online. If your Card has been locked for whatever reason; you will need to call Direct Express customer service at 888-741-1115. Customer service will verify your identity and then unlock your Card, which you can then use immediately.
