Getting Your Stimulus Check On Direct Express Card

What Is A Stimulus Check?

A stimulus check is the spending money provided to taxpayers with the intention to boost consumption and stimulate the economy. Stimulus check payments are non-taxable and they don’t count against your government benefits.

How Much Will I Receive?

Eligible taxpayers will receive a stimulus check of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples. Up to $500 is provided for each qualifying child under the age of 17.

If you think the amount of your stimulus check is incorrect, visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center website for more information. You will normally be able to claim the additional amount when you file your 2020 tax return. This money will only be available in 2021.

How Will I Receive A Stimulus Check?

If you are an eligible Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Veterans, and Railroad Retirement Board recipient, your stimulus check will automatically be deposited to your Direct Express card account.

Direct Express cardholders with qualifying children need to take additional steps in order to receive the full amount of the stimulus check. If you didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019, you are required to file a non-filer tax return with information about your children, their ages, and their Social Security numbers. In this case, you won’t receive your payment on your Direct Express card but either a direct deposit to a bank account or a paper check.

A letter about the stimulus check will be sent to your latest registered address within 15 days after the payment is made. For security reasons, the IRS will not call or email you about your stimulus check. Note that The IRS refers to stimulus checks as an Economic Impact Payment.

When Will I Get My Stimulus Check?

If you are an SSDI, SSI, or VA benefits recipient, you should have received your stimulus check by now. The IRS sent stimulus payments to SSDI recipients by direct deposit starting April 29 and to SSI and VA benefits recipients mid-May.

Why Haven’t I Got The Stimulus Check Yet?

If you just started receiving SSDI, SSI, or Veterans benefits in 2020 and you didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019, you can submit a non-filer tax return by October 15, 2020 to get your payment this year.

If you used the non-filer page and missed the deadline, you will receive your stimulus check, but you will have to wait until spring 2021 to receive the extra $500 per child.

Can I Make The Stimulus Check Process Move Any Faster?

In most cases, you should have already received your stimulus check by now. If you have started receiving your federal benefits in 2020, you should complete a non-filer tax return by October 15 to receive your stimulus check before the end of the year.
